Plastic Surgery and Beauty Concept

The aim of plastic surgery is to achieve beauty. Beauty is a natural instinct, like the maternal or survival instinct. Beauty is the basic concept of art and aesthetics that is pleasing to the eye, activates emotions such as a feeling of enjoyment, a feeling of admiration, a feeling of liking, and arouses enthusiasm for life and joy in the person. In today’s terminology, we call beauty the set of values that lead people to press the “like” button without hesitation.

Beauty has some criteria. In order for us to call something beautiful, there must be harmony in this object, there must be an order away from complexity in this object, there must be a moderation and a state of sublimity in this object. However, despite these criteria in the concept of beauty, the perception of beauty mostly depends on the person who evaluates it, as it is related to the power of taste. So it is a subjective concept.

The understanding of beauty also has a divine dimension. When we look at the word beauty from a religious perspective, it is written in the holy book that “man was created in the most beautiful way”, “man was created in measure and harmony”, “man is expected to do beautiful things”. In other words, the demand for beauty in human beings is fed by religious elements as well as sociocultural factors.

As much as human beings want to see beauty around them, they also try to look beautiful to those around them. Human beings want to be beautiful in order to meet their innate needs of being accepted, supported and admired. In a way, the effort to achieve beauty is actually for the peace and happiness of the person. The effort to achieve beauty is accepted by society as long as it does not reach the level of anxiety.

While some people struggle with changes due to aging, some people try to change their structure caused by hereditary factors through aesthetic interventions to achieve external beauty. The main principle in aesthetic procedures is to eliminate excesses and complete deficiencies, thus achieving the “Ideal”.
